With over $180 billion spent on US advertising last year, the average American is exposed to over an hour of TV commercials, and as many as 5,000 ads every day. The advertising we’re constantly consuming paints a picture of society, thus shaping how we view ourselves and what many aspire to. So how does Instavism play a role in traditional media?

We’ve learned that a huge trend in social media for 2019 is championing change. Businesses now see more reward than risk in aligning themselves with political and social issues. Sprout Social did a study and found two key things about social media activism: people want to hear from brands and people want brands to use their powerful platforms. Depression affected roughly 3 million teens in the US. In 2017, 13% of them were 12-17 year old. That’s up from the 8% in 2010. For the most part people suffering from depression tend to not receive help in real time, but rather when they are close to hitting rock bottom or when they are in complete crisis and it’s too late.

Instagram Stories are not so slowly becoming the number one-way people consume social media content. Together, software application company, Buffer and social media analytics agency, Delmondo analyzed 15K Instagram stories from top brands around the world. Here’s what they found (and how you can learn from them)!

Unveiled last week at Art Basel Miami, Pantone announced “Living Coral” as the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year. The color, specifically named Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral, is part pink, part peachy orange with a golden undertone. The color standards authority describes the color as vibrant, yet mellow, and “displays a lively presence within social media.” As people are increasingly immersed in a cold and isolating digital world, the optimistic and joyful color humanizes the online experiences.

New feature alert: Instagram recently added a countdown sticker to Stories, allowing users to incorporate an interactive countdown to their posts. For instance, brands and consumers alike will be able to build anticipation for a launch, exclusive drop, sales, and more.
