In a bold move to capture more everyday photos, Instagram has introduced “stories,” a new feature that lets users share candid content that is available for only 24 hours from the time of posting. The feature is nearly identical to Snapchat with some small differences.
Stories appear as a row of circular avatars at the top of your Instagram feed. Each bubble represents an account that you follow, and contains every photo and video clip that the user has posted to their stories feed within the past day. Tap a bubble and their story will open in full screen!
Over the years, Instagram has thrived on making everyday images look beautiful with just a few clicks and eventually became synonymous with aspirational photos of everyday life. Instagram describes its stories as, “ A way to promote the sharing of moments that don’t meet the higher bar of a traditional Instagram post. But it’s also designed to get people to share more, period.”
There is a large market for moments like this and we are excited to see how stories resonates on Instagram.
