Anyone with an Instagram knows what a Boomerang is – a short gif that plays over in a loop. It has easily become one of the most popular ways to bring an Instagram story to life. Recently, Instagram has announced the addition of three new creative Boomerang modes, including the ability to “trim and tweak your Boomerang.”
Instagram users around the globe can now add SlowMo, “Echo” blurring, and “Duo” rapid rewind effects to their Boomerangs, as well as trim their length to have more control of your final clip. Nearly five years after Boomerang's launch, this is considered the biggest upgrade yet for one of the most popular video creation tools.
With these new additions, it could be a way for users to create more visually compelling content, but Instagram continues to rival the globally-known app TikTok, which is currently leading the social video space. We’re excited to see how users and brands will utilize these new editing modes and if Instagram plans to roll out even more capabilities in the near future to keep up with rival social video apps.
