PERISCOPE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE SOCIAL MEDIA GRAVEYARD
Google+, Myspace, Vine, Ello, and now Periscope. If you haven’t guessed, what all of these platforms have in common is that they’ve all made it to the social media graveyard.
Back in the day, when being able to create a live stream on your mobile device was a new thing, Periscope was one of the more popular options out there, so much so that Twitter decided to spend $100 million to buy the company. However, all good things need to come to an end, and Periscope is now one of them.
Twitter actually announced back in December 2020 that they would be shutting down Periscope, so this shouldn’t really come as a complete surprise but now it is officially, official. It does mark the end of an era for the app that used to be popular back in the day, but as Twitter has since created its own way of creating a live stream, Periscope was just no longer needed.
Twitter also has serious video broadcasting competition now. This includes the likes of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and more. In the meantime, Twitter is also said to be working on a new feature called Spaces that is said to mimic the Clubhouse social media platform. More to come on this as we learn more.
