LinkedIn just announced a new ‘Reactions’ feature to its platform — helping to make every social platform have similar emotional responses to content. As explained by LinkedIn:
“One of the things we regularly hear from all of you is that you want more expressive ways than a ‘Like’ to respond to the variety of posts you see in your feed. At the same time, you’ve also told us that when you post on LinkedIn, you want more ways to feel heard and understand why someone liked what you said. That’s why today we’re starting to roll out a set of Reactions on LinkedIn, giving you more ways to quickly and constructively communicate with one another.”
Users can now ‘Like’, ‘Love’, and ‘Congratulate’ their connections by clicking on emojis (similar to Facebook). Since the majority of LinkedIn users log in via the mobile app, this easy response option makes sense when navigating. Critics are skeptical of this new feature due to the fear of cross-functional similarities between social platforms, however, it comes down to engagement. And if engagement increases, it’s a win in our book.
